Born from Curiosity

What started as informal walks with visiting friends evolved into something far more meaningful. We noticed how differently people experienced the city when shown through local eyes rather than guidebooks.

Founded in 2019, umber-thicket emerged from a simple belief: every street has a story waiting to be told. Our guides are historians, architects, food enthusiasts, and lifelong residents who share their genuine passion for urban landscapes.

We deliberately keep our groups small. Eight guests maximum ensures everyone can hear the stories, ask questions, and actually enter the tiny coffee shops and hidden courtyards that larger groups simply cannot access.

Our Approach

Tourism often reduces cities to their greatest hits. We take a different path. Our tours venture into residential neighbourhoods, working markets, and streets where locals actually spend their time.

Every route is designed to balance iconic sights with unexpected discoveries. You might pass a famous landmark, but we will also show you the bakery around the corner where generations of families have bought their morning bread.

We train our guides not just in facts and dates, but in the art of storytelling. History becomes vivid when you can picture the people who walked these same streets centuries ago, facing challenges not so different from our own.

Sustainable Tourism

We believe tourism should benefit communities, not overwhelm them. Our routes deliberately spread visitors across neighbourhoods rather than concentrating footfall in already-crowded areas.

We partner with independent businesses: the family-run coffee shops, the third-generation bakers, the neighbourhood bookstores. When we bring guests through their doors, we are supporting the fabric that makes these places worth visiting.

Our guides use public transport where possible, teaching guests to navigate the city as locals do. We walk everywhere we can, reducing our environmental footprint while ensuring you see details you would miss from a vehicle window.
